It's over 3,000 miles from New York to London, and, in 1942, vessels were in danger from Nazi wolfpacks virtually every inch of the way. Allied naval forces were stretched thin across the entire globe, and millions of tons of supplies had to be moved. The Flower Class Corvette was developed as a cheap convoy escort. They helped support the over-stretched destroyer forces, keeping a watchful eye on the waves
