DRG BR86 STEAM LOCOMOTIVE II
MODEL
According to the DRG's standard type program, the class 86 was intended to transport heavy freight trains on routes with gentle gradients as well as passenger trains and mixed trains on routes with steep gradients. A total of 774 machines were built by 1943, with almost all German locomotive factories involved in building them. The Deutsche Bundesbahn used the nimble and powerful tank locomotives in front of all types of trains as "girls for everything" mainly on main and secondary lines in the low mountain ranges. The 86s could also be sighted in front of ore transport wagons, especially in the Saarland with its smelting works in Neunkirchen, Brebach, Burbach, Dillingen and Völklingen.
