From 1936 onwards, the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft put streamlined express train cars into service. The windows and doors were completely flush with the outer wall of the car, the side walls were pulled down beyond the actual end of the car and between the bogies. The "apron cars" thus achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. In 1974, eight apron dining cars were given an ocean blue and beige livery.
